For a year the Boston Globe Direct circulars delivered by our postal carrier piled up in our home. Some 500,000 households received this printed weekly as well—what were other households doing with these? The colorful advertisements were cut by hand into minature book sections, organized in a chromatic progression, and punched for sewing. The fourth-century coptic stitch was employed to bind the sections into a 16-foot long book form. The piece undulates easily and comes to life when handled while questioning the 52 weeks of consumer-driven culture.
