After working to protect our human right to safe and accessible water, I selected tapwater as my studio name—a system for sharing a natural resource whose access, care, and use requires the attention and energy of us all.

Amanda Nelsen

An educator and artist using the traditions of book arts, I aim to guide others through the creative process in designing and creating work that inspires solutions to issues facing our world today. I am particularly focused on drawing attention to our impact on our environment and our need to treat others as we ourselves want to be treated.

Nelsen’s artistic choices remind viewers of the “present distance between such idealized representations of nature and the real toll taken by our continuing exploitation of its resources.”
